  • No mutual funds; no IPOs; no native forex (referred to sister brand tastyfx)
  • No OTC / pink sheets / penny stocks (delisted positions can only be closed via trade desk)
  • Bonds and Treasuries available phone trade desk only — added 2025
  • No paper trading account — only a backtesting tool against historical data

Margin rates vs. peers

Effective interest rate by debit balance. Lower is better. Step-line — rate is constant within each tier.

Cash sweep

Default cash sweep

0.01%(tastytrade default sweep)

Effective 0.01% APY on uninvested cash. No automatic money-market position. Move cash to an external high-yield account for meaningful yield.

Frequently asked

What makes tastytrade's options pricing different?
tastytrade charges $1 to open and $0 to close on equity options, capped at $10 per leg. That means a 50-contract single-leg trade has the same $10 open commission as a 10-contract trade. Round-trip cost is $0.50 per contract — and zero at scale once the cap binds. No major competitor matches this structure.
Does tastytrade offer paper trading?
No — this is a genuine gap. tastytrade offers a backtesting tool that simulates strategies against historical data (long/short options, spreads, with delta / %-OTM / underlying-offset / premium strike selection), but not a real paper-trading account with live data. Schwab paperMoney, Webull, IBKR, and E*TRADE all do.
What's the tastytrade margin rate?
Tiered: 11.00% on debit balances under $25K, stepping down to 8.00% above $1M (base rate 10% since January 1, 2025; April 6, 2026 schedule). Roughly 5–7 percentage points above IBKR Pro at every tier — on a $100K loan, that's roughly $5,000 per year more than IBKR.
Does tastytrade support OTC stocks?
No. tastytrade does not offer OTC, Pink Sheets, OTCQB, or OTCQX listings. Delisted positions can only be closed via the trade desk by phone. For OTC access use Firstrade, Fidelity, Schwab, IBKR, or TradeStation.
Does tastytrade have mutual funds?
No. tastytrade has a deliberately narrow product shelf: stocks, ETFs, listed options, index options, futures, options on futures, and 23 cryptocurrencies. No mutual funds, no native forex (tastyfx is the sister brand), no IPOs.
What is Tastylive?
8+ hours of live original options programming every weekday, free. Marquee shows: Market Measures, Options Jive, From Theory to Practice, Tasty Bites. Hosted by Tony Battista, Nick Battista, Katie McGarrigle, Mike Butler (Tom Sosnoff stepped away from day-to-day operations in September 2025 to launch Lossdog but still appears on-camera). The integrated education arm is unmatched in retail brokerage.
Is tastytrade safe?
Yes. SEC- and FINRA-registered broker-dealer (CRD #277027), SIPC member ($500K / $250K cash protection). Apex Clearing handles custody and segregates futures balances. Crypto is provided by Zero Hash LLC (NYDFS-licensed) and is not SIPC- or FDIC-insured. November 2024 FINRA $30K supervisory fine was paid in full and WSPs were updated.
Does tastytrade offer 24-hour trading?
Yes — S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, and select ETFs trade Sunday 7 p.m. through Friday 7 p.m. CT. Robinhood, Webull, E*TRADE, and Firstrade all offer overnight sessions too; Schwab thinkorswim (1,100+ securities) and IBKR (10,000+ stocks/ETFs) cover more symbols.

Notes

Options-focused; cap of $10/leg makes it cheap for high-quantity options trades.
